Prof. Dr. Hussein Mostafa Moussa Khaled is a distinguished Egyptian physician, academic, and Professor of Oncology at Cairo University, whose career spans more than five decades of excellence in medicine, medical education, scientific research, academic leadership, and public service.

Born on October 18, 1951, in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Khaled has devoted his professional life to the advancement of oncology and to the development of medical education and scientific research in Egypt. He was married to the late Prof. Dr. Rabab Gaafar, a distinguished Professor of Oncology and an eminent specialist in cancer medicine. Together, they had two children, a son and a daughter, both of whom followed their parents' example and became physicians.

Dr. Khaled graduated from Qasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery in December 1975. In July 1976, he obtained the United States Medical Equivalency Certificate. He subsequently earned his Master's Degree in Internal Medicine in 1979, followed by his Doctorate in Oncology from the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University, in 1986.

His professional career began in 1977 as a Resident Physician in the Department of Oncology at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. Through dedication to patient care, teaching, and research, he progressed through the academic ranks and was appointed Professor of Oncology in January 1997.

Alongside his academic and clinical career, Dr. Khaled assumed a number of prominent leadership positions at Cairo University and the National Cancer Institute. He served as Director of the Outpatient Clinics (1999–2000), Vice Dean for Environmental and Community Affairs (2000–2002), and Dean of the National Cancer Institute (2002–2008). He subsequently served as Vice President of Cairo University for Postgraduate Studies and Research (2008–2011) and, in August 2011, briefly assumed the responsibilities of Acting President of Cairo University.

In December 2011, Dr. Khaled was appointed Minister of Higher Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Kamal El-Ganzouri. During this period, he was also entrusted with serving as Acting Minister of Health for 20 days, drawing upon his extensive medical expertise and leadership experience.

Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Hussein Khaled has combined the roles of physician, educator, scientist, academic leader, and public servant. His professional journey reflects a sustained commitment to advancing medicine, supporting medical education, promoting scientific research, and contributing to the development of Egypt's healthcare and higher education institutions.
